Surfing in Mentawai
It's time to
Why Siberut Matters
Siberut is the largest island in the Mentawai chain. It is remote, less crowded, and ideal for surfers who value quality waves in a natural, quiet setting. The island is known for its dense rainforest, traditional Mentawai villages, and direct access to several world-class surf breaks. Siberut is part of the Playgrounds region, offering consistent waves, easy boat access, and options for all surf levels.

This is when Mentawai delivers its best. The Indian Ocean generates powerful south and southwest swells that hit the reefs around Siberut and nearby islets with consistency. Expect clean waves, glassy mornings, and excellent wind conditions. This season suits advanced surfers who seek powerful, barreling waves.
Swells range from head-high to double overhead.
Conditions are best from June to August.
Popular breaks include BankVaults, Kandui, Nipussi, and Burger World.

Although it's the rainy season, Mentawai still gets south swells. Resorts like Mentawai Balcony remain open, offering uncrowded waves. This is a good time for experienced surfers willing to deal with variable conditions.
